Old City Temple Bar, Festive Cheer

Tonight, as the rain poured down in wind-blown Dublin, a bunch of people turned out to see Mayor Montague turn on the Christmas lights on Cow’s Lane in the old part of Temple Bar.  The was music from an orchestra which was sheltered from the rain from two giant umbrellas, all the independent shops were offering mince pies and mulled wine and the Temple Bar Cultural Trust were also doling out the mulled wine to ease the misery of the soggy night that was in it.

At about 6.45, the band started up and after a few renditions of old Christmas classics like “Deck the halls”, the mayor came bustling past Marian and up to his podium.  he made a speech in which he expressed his hope that the retailers in the area have a good shopping season, especially after last year’s losses due to the snowy shopping season.  Then the lights were turned on and the crowd quickly dispersed into the rainy night.  We topped up our mulled wine and headed for home too.
