A friend of mine recommended that I shop around for a hotel to stay in because great deals can be got in Brussels at weekends. Hotels there are busy during the week with business people so they have very attractive rates at weekends (2 nights = €106). We stayed in Hotel Bloom on Rue Royale. Bloom is a modern hotel and the main attraction is a mural in every rooom by a different artist. Ours was by Myra Jago.
AM Sweet was a really cute chocolate shop and tea room on Rue des Chartreux in St Gery.
Also on Rue des Chartreux was Lord Byron cafe-bar where we spent a good number of hours on Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere was great in there and we had a nice spot by the broken window where we could watch what was happening outside (not a lot due to the rain)
20 metres from the Manneken Pis statue there is a record store called Arlequin with painings outside and inside there is a good selection of second hand vinyl.
+ cake in Le Pain Quotidien, TinTin-esque paintings on the sides of buildings, city bikes (which we didn’t go on), and the beers.
